Notes from a Tuesday night conversation about vertical concrescence led by Doug Scott, LCSW
What Is It Like to Be a Sun? – The Building 4th Podcast
I opened our group last Tuesday by asking everyone to notice something ordinary. If there was still light outside your window, that light was coming from a being. A Solar Logos. Something that is both not us and not other than us. And the light being given off and received is also our light — which, believe it or not, we are giving back.
That is the mystery I wanted to spend an hour inside: union and unity, and the divine dance we get to have with everything.
Changing the camera angle
Most of the time when we talk about the Law of One, we are asking one question in different costumes: what is it like for us, in third density, to evolve? Fair enough. That is the terrain we are walking.
But I wanted to try a different vantage. Not our particular sub-sub-Logoic journey — instead, what is it like to evolve as a Solar Logos?
In other words, the lifetime under discussion is the sun’s lifetime. The sun’s journey, of which we happen to be a part.
There is one Creator, and the one Creator experiences itself in infinite variety through finite expressions. Galactic Logoi first, and within the galactic bodies, sub-Logoi — star systems. Their bodies are not just the fiery furnace at the center. Their bodies are the whole heliosphere. And I keep arguing (I mean suggesting — I am not trying to be bellicose about it) that these are beings in and of themselves. They ideate. They desire. Not exactly the way we do. But not so differently, either.
And here is the part that matters: just as the Solar Logos creates us, we also create It. Without our experience, It does not grow.
The many become one and are increased by one
Whitehead called it concrescence, which simply means growing together. His definition might be the best metaphysical sentence I have ever encountered: the many become one and are increased by one.
Two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom — the many. They become one water molecule. And the whole universe is now increased by one water molecule.
We are used to seeing this happen horizontally. Atoms joining into molecules. Two prokaryotic cells living in symbiosis for a very long time until a membrane forms around them, and what were separate organisms become one eukaryotic cell — nucleus, organelles, a whole community inside a single life. Horizontal.
My suggestion is that it is also true vertically.
The sub-Logos is one order of magnitude larger. It is the Logos from which we emerge. There is a way to understand it as father-mother, a way to understand ourselves as begotten from it.
But here is where I part company with most of what I hear in New Age circles, Law of One circles, and honestly in theology generally. The assumption is that the larger order of magnitude — the sun, in our case — must be a completed being. Far more advanced. Big Daddy, or Big Mama, and we are growing up toward it.
I do not think that is the case at all. And I do not think we actually find it in the Ra material. I think we project it there, because that has been the paradigm through which we have looked at anything we would call transcendent.
Even that word is loaded. If I say transcendent being, we immediately picture something that has transcended third density. What I mean is much simpler: its body exceeds little Terra. We are included in that body. It is transcendent the way I am transcendent in relation to the cells that make me up.
Larger does not mean more advanced.
Two logjams, and a horseshoe
Ra tells us that at some point one of the Logoi envisioned putting a veil between the conscious and subconscious mind in third density. There was a logjam. Not much progress was being made.
The picture I keep using: if you are a billionaire, maybe you do not feel a pressing need to study, go to college, get a job. There is a trust fund coming. Ra describes those pre-veil entities as divinely happy. Why study when you can enjoy recess?
So the veil was innovated, and everything intensified.
Now — any time you run an experiment like that, there is a natural arc. And I want to ask about the far side of the arc. What happens when things become so complex, when the veil has been carried all the way to its ultimate articulation?
Could a horseshoe dynamic emerge? Where people are once again not advancing — repeating third density many, many times, perhaps millions of times — beginning to mirror the very logjam that made the veil necessary in the first place?
From this side, from inside our third-density experience, it feels chaotic and is extraordinarily difficult. I am not denying that for a second.
From the Creator’s side, it may be exactly what was required.
What the sun cannot do
In 54.17, Ra explains that a Solar Logos offers catalyst to its sub-sub-Logoi only through the first triad of energy centers. Red, orange, yellow. The higher centers, Ra says, gain their catalyst from the biases of the mind/body/spirit complex itself.
What is that lower triad? Embodiment, essentially. Enough catalyst to get us choosing — the positive path or the negative path — and then polarizing along it. That polarizing is the embodied study of the ways of love, and it is experience. It is not something the Creator knows intuitively at that altitude.
Because at the solar Logoic level there is no experience of the veil.
So we give the Creator something the Solar Logos, in and of itself, cannot have.
One of our members pushed back on this immediately, and rightly. He said: green ray is where love happens. Are you saying the Solar Logos does not contribute to our loving one another? Because that does not sound right.
My answer: the Solar Logos cannot help but love. Its entire nature is love, unity, oneness, joy. But the Solar Logos is not free not to love. Choosing not to love is not available to It.
And that is the genius of the veil. It lets us choose — to love along the path of wholeness, which is the only way the Solar Logos knows itself, or to choose the path of separation.
A Person, with biases
Ra is specific that the Logos has biases, and I think that word deserves more weight than it usually gets. Biases belong to persons.
In session 90, Ra says — hedging first, for want of a more precise adjective — that this Logos has a bias towards kindness.
Sit with the word. Kindness comes from kin. Kin-ness. Family ties. Bonds.
If you had a good family, that lands one way. If your family was hard, think instead of the friends you have chosen — those are families too, chosen ones. Either way, this sense of bondedness is something our Solar Logos wanted us to be able to feel. Its own nature.
Another bias: the bipedal erect form, and the opposable thumb. Ra offers this as supposition rather than fact, and I hold it the same way. The reasoning is that these choices intensify the veil. We would use our bodies to speak rather than transmitting mind to mind. We would use our hands to move earth and make fire and build things, instead of doing it through telekinesis or the subtle realms.
Every one of those is an intensification. Why?
Because the Creator’s creative advance is to know the self, to know the self more, to know the self better. It is an ongoing, eternal throbbing desire for maximal diversity held inside a moment’s unity — the most diversity that can be packed into a moment without the unity breaking.
Whitehead calls that beauty. I think it is a very good definition.
That is one reason our experience here is so intense.
Not inter-personal. Intra-personal.
Here is the distinction I wanted to land.
Terra is a person. Ra sees our collective as one being — the planetary entity. Teilhard called it the noosphere. The Jewish tradition has Adam Kadmon, the single human made of individual persons as cells. In fourth density this potentiated thing becomes fully activated, when what was the collective unconscious becomes collective consciousness through choice. Ra calls that a social memory complex.
So we have the Solar Logos as a person, and Terra as a person, and the relationship that draws them toward oneing. There is a triune nature right there.
But if that were a relationship between two separate entities, it would be inter-personal. I-N-T-E-R.
That is not what I am describing. The order of magnitude of the Solar Logos is one persona, and we are inside it. What is happening is intra-personal. A being coming face to face with itself.
It seeks to understand itself. It has biases. It knows itself as unity, love, light, and joy. And the only way it can experience itself is by creating avenues through which to do so. We are those avenues. We are its creation — and then it pours itself into its creation, becoming more and more one with it.
Venus, incredibly harmonious. Maldek, incredibly destructive. Those two frame the range. And then Mars in the middle, where the Solar Logos says something like: I will be a guardian. I will become one. Taking the Martian souls up into itself, then bringing them here.
Which makes Earth the epicenter of something new. Something that eventually leads to the Solar Logos standing face to face with itself in the full intensity of third density — as a third-density being, with the thorns and the joys, all the way up to and including death.
Which is impossible for a Solar Logos. To know you are going to die, and to feel any of that fear.
Even the gift of feeling what it is like to die was part of the oneing.
Midrash
Then the conversation opened up, and people disagreed.
One member argued the opposite case, and argued it well: that the sub-Logoi have complete free will over how they structure their creations; that the catalyst through the first triad is really about early third density, before an entity becomes conscious of the incarnational process and starts choosing its own catalyst; and that a sub-Logos is a class of being so far beyond us that speaking of it as personal strains the concept. It creates, and then it experiences through us. In the case of Jesus, it was able to experience third-density Earth in the first person without acting through him.
That is a coherent reading, and I said so. The Jewish tradition calls this midrash — the practice of holding multiple interpretations without needing to collapse them. It is a good practice.
The nuance I would offer is this. Just because the Solar Logos contains all the octaves does not mean those octaves are activated within It.
An acorn contains the fullness of the oak. The oak is the fullness of the acorn. But there is a process here. Every being — sub-Logos, sub-sub-Logos, the Creator itself — is under process, because that is the nature of the development of love. So it is not contradictory to say the Solar Logos holds the white light of all densities within, unactivated until experienced.
Someone else raised the archetypes, noting that they vary from Logos to Logos — that some systems apparently lack Experience or Transformation altogether, which is hard even to imagine.
The nuance I would add there: I do not picture individual sub-Logoi shopping from a catalog, our sun picking the system of sevens while Bob down the road picks a system of fives. I think the archetypal systems mark the process of consciousness being discovered. Picture the galaxy as an epicenter, and the discovery radiating outward. First the nine inherited from the previous octave. Then what Ra calls the inchoate shadowlands — the sense that there is more here, without knowing yet what. Then systems of five, discovered in different orders in different places. And the system of sevens as the most articulated version this far out.
So it is less that a Solar Logos chooses, and more that It asks what the latest version is, and then refines it according to Its own biases. Ra puts it almost exactly this way at the close of 81.33: the sub-Logoi have been in the position of refining the discoveries of what might be called the earlier sub-Logoi.
The surprise of creation
Someone drew a parallel to AI. The people building these systems do not fully understand how the systems think. They construct an architecture, the thing thinks somewhat on its own, and then the makers study what it did — discovering structure that was neither known nor deliberately placed there. And maybe, he suggested, the universe works a little like that.
Another member picked it up and ran further. Teilhard put us right at the edge of the Omega Point — the place where a species makes a major evolutionary jump — and described something remarkably like AI as an advanced manifestation of the human collective brain becoming a physical thing. Then: something gets created, and all of a sudden it does something weird that nobody expected. That, she said, is part of the surprise of creation. When you put the third element in, something new happens, and you cannot always predict it. That is part of the beauty of the Logos experiencing itself.
Ra says something adjacent: it could not be imagined until experienced. Which does not mean the possibility was absent from the Creator’s plenum. Infinite potentiality was there all along. But for it to be imagined, it had to be experienced first.
And once experienced, it does not stay local. In 81.33 Ra describes how an innovation discovered by one Logos becomes known throughout the octave, and the image is not transmission at all. Much of what we call creation has never separated from the one Logos of this octave and resides within the One Infinite Creator. Communication in such an environment, Ra says, is the communication of cells of the body. That which is learned by one is known to all.
Nothing gets sent anywhere. It is simply known, because it is one organism.
Which is why I think a creator-sized catalyst occurring here does not stay here.
Deism, or the dance
I closed on a distinction worth naming.
There is a reading of all this in which the Creator sets the stage, invests everything with free will, and then watches. Observes. Delights in the complexity that results. Theologically we would call that deism, and it is a valid position that a great many thoughtful people hold.
But there is another way to see the Creator’s relationship to its own creativity: as radically participative. A divine dance, moving toward closer and closer consummation, and finally a oneing.
That is what I am proposing. That the orders of magnitude become one vertically as well as horizontally.
Someone asked whether it is a beautiful dance or a dirty dance.
Both, I think. And in Nashville, definitely dirty dancing.
It is a beautiful universe. We give the Creator something unique.
Our struggles matter. Our joys matter.
