What’s the Foundation Upon Which You Stand?

Article by Doug Esse

When we encounter something like the Law of One material, it can be freeing. Other nondual sources, whether conventional, esoteric, or somewhere in between (which is “mesoteric,” by the way), can also free us conceptually, especially if we grew up with religion at the immature and punitive levels.

It doesn’t get more simple than Ra’s statement in session 1: “All things, all of life, all of Creation is part of One Original Thought…You are not part of a material universe. You are part of a thought. You are dancing in a ballroom in which there is no material. You are dancing thoughts. You move your body, your mind, and your spirit in somewhat eccentric patterns, for you have not completely grasped the concept that you are part of the Original Thought” [1].

And in this statement, 6.14: “The Law of One states simply that all things are one, that all beings are one” [2]

And in this statement, 4.20: “The Law of One, though beyond the limitations of name, as you call vibratory sound complexes, may be approximated by stating that all things are one, that there is no polarity, no right or wrong, no disharmony, but only identity. All is one, and that one is love/light, light/love, the Infinite Creator” [3].

Truly, as spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle reminds us through the recent years, there is only the Now and we can learn how to live from the Eternal Now while engaging in our life’s situations.

What is your foundation that makes sense of your life?

I can tell you something of my foundation. After years of psychological, philosophical, and theological studying and after years of reading about and engaging in spiritual work of different inner traditions, I have returned time and again to my foundation. This is the “rock upon which I build my house,” as is mentioned in Matthew 7: 24-27. I use it as a metric to sense the solidity and robustness of any teaching.

And I grounded deeply into it before ever foraying into the Law of One or any other esoteric source. In fact, if the Law of One did not completely support this foundation, I would not trust it. But, luckily for me, it did and so I do. And I’ll add this, I land back upon my foundation when I am in emotional or spiritual pain; when I feel I have lost some direction; when I need to re-center.

______________________

Foundation One: There is a triune nature to the One Infinite Creator that can be experienced.

–The One Infinite Creator is me and all of the things I see (ref sessions 10.14) [4].

–The Infinite Creator transcends me in mysterious ways that includes things I cannot fully grasp [5]. I indwell within the Infinite Creator.

–The Infinite Creator also indwells inside me and is a Presence that I can feel emotionally and affectively. I can dialog with the Presence (ref 49.6 [6], ref 10.14 [7], ref 30.5 [8], ref 92.20 [9], ref 71.13 [10], [11]).

______________________

Foundation Two: There is a “cruciform shape” to all of reality.

–The pattern of dying and rising, death and resurrection is the Great Pattern–the Great Cross–upon which the Infinite Creator expresses Itself and experiences Itself through manifestation.

–This cruciform shape to reality is found in the natural world, in the metaphysical world, in the emotional world, and the spiritual world.

–This cruciform reality has been called different things in our human languages, including: The Hero’s Journey, Wheels of Karma, the Paschal Mystery, Transformation, Self-Emptying (Kenosis), “If a grain of wheat dies, it bears much fruit” (John 12:24), The Law of Three, Order-Disorder-Reorder.

Me

Foundation Three: I glorify the One Infinite Creator through my life by being who I am (ref 18.13 [12]).

–I can serve the One Infinite Creator through my own life, in my struggles, in my joys, and in my everyday experiences.

–I can serve the Creator by serving others and serving the Creation, and I can do this serving in both physical ways and through spiritual means.

–There is no way to not serve the Infinite Creator and through my life, I give the Creator a unique and precious experience.

–And that relationship and relationality is the great medium through which Creation, including us–and through Creation, the Infinite Creator–grows, evolves, learns, and loves.

Foundation Four: Liminal Space, that place of holding paradoxes together, is my permanent home in my life.

–It is often uncomfortable to live here. The only thing that is very clear to me is that I am not clear on very much.

–Living in liminal space means that I have to hold together things like:

*the known and the unknown

*ecstasy and anxiety

*the eternal now and the very temporary

*concepts (like the Law of One, philosophy, theology, esoteric knowledge) and living out the concepts where the rubber hits the road (praxis).

*trusting my own intuition and trusting an authority

*sadness and joy

*brokenness and wholeness

*the divine and the material

*the absolute and the relative

*deep loneliness and deep communion

*conventional and esotericism

*painful rejection and breathtaking belonging and affirmation

*the masculine and the feminine

*positive and negative

*my light and my shadow

______________________

There are obviously many more seeming paradoxes that I could add under Foundation Four. The list could go on and on. But I’ve learned that I do not find teachers or spiritual teachings very deep or having much to offer me during those times when I find liminal-space living downright hard and heavy if they don’t address the difficulty of living in liminal space–and acknowledge its unparalleled sacredness.

When I need to land, to re-center, and embody my “truth” again, I come back to my four foundational pillars. It gives me such solace and renewed hope to find myself standing firmly upon my foundation. It gives me such meaning and I feel reinvigorated to launch again into my life’s situation, into this “ballroom dance,” where I find my identity contained in a Larger Identity, my will aligned with a Larger Will, my little life fractalizing the One Great Life, and my little stream flowing within the Divine Current.

So, my dear reader, what is your foundation upon which you stand? What gives you the courage and perspective to dive into life and make sense of the ordinary struggles and joys of your life? Sure, it is great to have concepts like the Law of One, but how have you lived out this oneness in ways that restore after the storms? How do these concepts lead you to love more and see from an embedded non-dual vision? May these questions be a light in the sacred darkness and stillness of our own seasons of advent where we await in wonder and hope even as we engage our lives with mishmashed energies and intentions.

Let us all go forth in peace in the great joy and delight; in the power and love; in the light and the shrouded mystery of the One Infinite Creator, in Whom we dance and have our being. Amen.

[1] 1.0 Ra: I am Ra. I have not spoken through this instrument before. We had to wait until she was precisely tuned, as we send a narrow-band vibration. We greet you in the love and in the light of our Infinite Creator.

We have watched your group. We have been called to your group, for you have a need for the diversity of experiences in channeling which go with a more intensive, or as you might call it, advanced approach to the system of studying the patterns of the illusions of your body, your mind, and your spirit, which you call seeking the truth. We hope to offer you a somewhat different slant upon the information which is always and ever the same.

The Confederation of Planets in the Service of the Infinite Creator has only one important statement. That statement, my friends, as you know, is: “All things, all of life, all of the creation is part of One Original Thought.”

We will exercise each channel if we are able to. The reception of our beam is a somewhat more advanced feat than some of the more broad vibration channels opened by other members for more introductory and intermediate work.

Let us for a moment consider thought. What is it, my friends, to take thought? Took you then thought today? What thoughts did you think today? What thoughts were part of the Original Thought today? In how many of your thoughts did the creation abide? Was love contained? And was service freely given?

You are not part of a material universe. You are part of a thought. You are dancing in a ballroom in which there is no material. You are dancing thoughts. You move your body, your mind, and your spirit in somewhat eccentric patterns, for you have not completely grasped the concept that you are part of the Original Thought.

[2] 6.14 Questioner: I think it would be appropriate to discover how the Law of One acts in this transfer of beings to our planet and the action of harvest.

Ra: I am Ra. The Law of One states simply that all things are one, that all beings are one. There are certain behaviors and thought-forms consonant with the understanding and practice of this law. Those who, finishing a cycle of experience, demonstrate various grades of distortion of that understanding of thought and action will be separated by their own choice into the vibratory distortion most comfortable to their mind/body/spirit complexes.

This process is guarded, or watched, by those nurturing beings who, being very close to the Law of One in their distortions, nevertheless have the distortion towards active service.

Thus, the illusion is created of Light, or more properly but less understandably, light/love. This is in varying degrees of intensity. The spirit complex of each harvested entity moves along the line of light until the light grows too glaring, at which time the entity stops. This entity may have barely reached third density or may be very, very close to the ending of the third-density light/love distortion vibratory complex. Nevertheless, those who fall within this octave of intensifying light/love then experience a major cycle during which the opportunities are many for the discovery of the distortions which are inherent in each entity and, therefore, the lessening of these distortions.

[3] 4.20 Questioner: My objective is primarily to discover more of the Law of One, and it would be very helpful to discover techniques of healing. I am aware of your problem with respect to free will. Can you make— You cannot make suggestions, so I will ask you if you can state the Law of One and the laws of healing to me?

Ra: I am Ra. The Law of One, though beyond the limitations of name, as you call vibratory sound complexes, may be approximated by stating that all things are one, that there is no polarity, no right or wrong, no disharmony, but only identity. All is one, and that one is love/light, light/love, the Infinite Creator.

One of the primal distortions of the Law of One is that of healing. Healing occurs when a mind/body/spirit complex realizes, deep within itself, the Law of One; that is, that there is no disharmony, no imperfection; that all is complete and whole and perfect. Thus, the intelligent infinity within this mind/body/spirit complex re-forms the illusion of body, mind, or spirit to a form congruent with the Law of One. The healer acts as energizer or catalyst for this completely individual process.

One item which may be of interest is that a healer asking to learn must take the distortion understood as responsibility for that ask/receiving, thus healing. This is a[n] honor/duty which must be carefully considered in free will before the asking.

[4] 10.14 Questioner: For general development of the reader of this book, could you state some of the practices or exercises to perform to produce an acceleration toward the Law of One?

Ra: I am Ra.

Exercise One. This is the most nearly centered and usable within your illusion complex. The moment contains love. That is the lesson/goal of this illusion or density. The exercise is to consciously seek that love in awareness and understanding-distortions. The first attempt is the cornerstone. Upon this choosing rests the remainder of the life-experience of an entity. The second seeking of love within the moment begins the addition. The third seeking powers the second, the fourth powering or doubling the third. As with the previous type of empowerment, there will be some loss of power due to flaws within the seeking in the distortion of insincerity. However, the conscious statement of self to self of the desire to seek love is so central an act of will that, as before, the loss of power due to this friction is inconsequential.

Exercise Two. The universe is one being. When a mind/body/spirit complex views another mind/body/spirit complex, see the Creator. This is an helpful exercise.

Exercise Three. Gaze within a mirror. See the Creator.

Exercise Four. Gaze at the creation which lies about the mind/body/spirit complex of each entity. See the Creator.

The foundation or prerequisite of these exercises is a predilection towards what may be called meditation, contemplation, or prayer. With this attitude, these exercises can be processed. Without it, the data will not sink down into the roots of the tree of mind, thus enabling and ennobling the body and touching the spirit.

[6] 49.6 Questioner: What process would be the recommended process for correctly awakening, as they say, the kundalini, and of what value would that be?

Ra: I am Ra. The metaphor of the coiled serpent being called upwards is vastly appropriate for consideration by your peoples. This is what you are attempting when you seek. There are, as we have stated, great misapprehensions concerning this metaphor and the nature of pursuing its goal. We must generalize and ask that you grasp the fact that this, in effect, renders far less useful that which we share. However, as each entity is unique, generalities are our lot when communicating for your possible edification.

We have two types of energy. We are attempting, then, as entities in any true color of this octave, to move the meeting place of inner and outer natures further and further along, or upward along, the energy centers. The two methods of approaching this with sensible method are first, the seating within one’s self of those experiences which are attracted to the entity through the south pole. Each experience will need to be observed, experienced, balanced, accepted, and seated within the individual. As the entity grows in self-acceptance and awareness of catalyst, the location of the comfortable seating of these experiences will rise to the new true-color entity. The experience, whatever it may be, will be seated in red ray and considered as to its survival content and so forth.

Each experience will be sequentially understood by the growing and seeking mind/body/spirit complex in terms of survival, then in terms of personal identity, then in terms of social relations, then in terms of universal love, then in terms of how the experience may beget free communication, then in terms of how the experience may be linked to universal energies, and finally in terms of the sacramental nature of each experience.

Meanwhile the Creator lies within. In the north pole the crown is already upon the head and the entity is potentially a god. This energy is brought into being by the humble and trusting acceptance of this energy through meditation and contemplation of the self and of the Creator.

Where these energies meet is where the serpent will have achieved its height. When this uncoiled energy approaches universal love and radiant being the entity is in a state whereby the harvestability of the entity comes nigh.

[8] 30.5 Questioner: I would like to know how the mind/body/spirit complexes originate. How, going back as far as necessary, does the— Do they originate by spirit forming mind and mind forming body? Can you tell me this?

Ra: I am Ra. We ask you to consider that you are attempting to trace evolution. This evolution is as we have previously described: the consciousness being first, in first density, without movement, a random thing. Whether you may call this mind or body complex is a semantic problem. We call it mind/body complex, recognizing always that in the simplest iota of this complex exists, in its entirety, the One Infinite Creator.

This mind/body complex then in second density discovering the growing and turning towards the light, thus awakening what you may call the spirit complex, that which intensifies the upward spiraling towards the love and light of the Infinite Creator.

The addition of this spirit complex, though apparent rather than real, it having existed potentially from the beginning of space/time, perfects itself by graduation into third density. When the mind/body/spirit complex becomes aware of the possibility of service to self or other-self, then the mind/body/spirit complex is activated.

[9] 92.20 Questioner: The Matrix of the Mind is depicted seemingly as male on the card and the Potentiator as female. Could Ra state why this is and how this affects these two archetypes?

Ra: I am Ra. Firstly, as we have said, the Matrix of the Mind is attracted to the biological male and the Potentiator of the Mind to the biological female. Thusly in energy transfer the female is able to potentiate that which may be within the conscious mind of the male so that it may feel enspirited.

In a more general sense, that which reaches may be seen as a male principle; that which awaits the reaching may be seen as a female principle.

The richness of the male and female system of polarity is interesting, and we would not comment further but suggest consideration by the student.

[10] 71.13 Questioner: Then each entity is on a path that leads to the one destination. This is like many, many roads which travel through many, many places but eventually merge into one large center. Is this correct?

Ra: I am Ra. This is correct but somewhat wanting in depth of description. More applicable would be the thought that each entity contains within it all of the densities and sub-densities of the octave so that in each entity, no matter whither its choices lead it, its great internal blueprint is one with all others. Thusly its experiences will fall into the patterns of the journey back to the original Logos. This is done through free will, but the materials from which choices can be made are one blueprint.

[12] 18.13 Questioner: Thank you. A most important point to my way of thinking.

You mentioned that there were a number of Confederations. Do all serve the Infinite Creator in basically the same way, or do some specialize in some particular types of service?

Ra: I am Ra. All serve the One Creator. There is nothing else to serve, for the Creator is all that there is. It is impossible not to serve the Creator. There are simply various distortions of this service.

As in the Confederation which works with your peoples, each Confederation is a group of specialized individual social memory complexes, each doing that which it expresses to bring into manifestation.

  1. Well, Doug Esse, I love this. You have put into words my own experience. I, too, am anchored in the western, Christian, “scriptural” tradition, and explore from there. I, too, would not have been as fulfilled as I am by the LoO had it not confirmed that tradition – at least in its purity, which is the teachings of Jesus.
And, I, too, have cornerstones very similar to yours. I express them differently, but you did a very nice job; I was able to recognize my own cornerstones in your description of yours.
As a matter of fact, I laid them out today for someone – and I will share those.

  2. The following was in response to a person’s inquiry into some of the “new age” beliefs:
I think the logo says, “There is no religion greater than truth”. I’ve not read anything from Blavatsky, Besant, or Bailey. I’ve not been led there, and I think I’m being led by Jesus the Christ and the “spirit of truth” – aka the Holy Spirit, or the Akashic record.
There are a few things I personally feel sure of, and I exercise faith in these things, in spite of the fact that I recognize I could be wrong and that my beliefs will certainly need adjustment as I continue to seek after truth:
Jesus is my friend, mentor, teacher, spirit guide, and example. He is a being whose existence transcends space/time, and He has the ability to communicate with me “telepathically” if I choose to listen. I do so choose. As a result, we have relationship that grows daily in trust and intimacy. I live in a constant state of repentance.
I have a desire for truth and to “become” love (which really means to reveal the love that is already in me). I have learned to recognize, acknowledge, and celebrate that desire. Another way to describe this is “a broken heart and a contrite spirit”.
I have zero desire for others to suffer because they do things, even to me, that I perceive to be hurtful. I have zero desire to see “justice” served, the wicked punished, or the “unsaved” spend eternity in “everlasting burnings”. Another way to describe this is “A mighty change of heart”.
God, the Universe, Creation – this is huge. Beyond our imagination or ability to comprehend. To assign human characteristics or traits – even a “personality” – to God is, in my opinion, folly. Yet, I choose to place my faith – the values that I select to guide my daily choices (agency) – in the overall benevolence of this creation. Beyond that, I don’t pretend to know, understand, or comprehend.
I am good. You are good. In the full perspective of this creation – ALL is good. God reportedly said so in the allegory that is Genesis chapter 1. But the time frame required for this goodness to manifest in final “victory” over the unpredictable consequences of agency is, again, beyond our imagination. We cannot conceive of such a time frame. So, I choose to be patient, faithful, and loving. I believe this is one of the cornerstones of what Jesus sought to teach, which teachings, btw, have been horribly distorted by people and by a social/political construct that has so far exhibited very little patience, perspective, faith, and love.
Sin is acting in the absence of love, and is almost always manifest in a desire to control the behavior of others. The primary motivation behind sin is fear. The desire to control others is rooted in fear, and the willingness to submit to being controlled is rooted in fear. There is no fear in love, so controlling behavior is not love…and is therefore sin. It takes great faith to live without fear…to live without sin…embracing love instead. In my opinion, this is the ultimate manifestation of having faith in Jesus Christ.
If any of this is consistent with any of these philosophers / teachers, with any “New Age” or “Eastern” system of thought, then that’s great. But THEY are not the source. FOR ME, the source has been Jesus Christ. I do not claim He is the only source of truth and benevolence, but for me He has been the primary source. I do not TRULY understand why this is, but I believe, and so far that belief has been greatly rewarded.
If these beliefs are consistent with the official canon of scripture (canon being a concept that I find very, very hypocritical and stiff-necked), then I celebrate that canon as a source of truth. If they are not, I initially seek further understanding out of a desire for reconciliation of any discrepancies. But if I can’t find reconciliation, then I default to the above – because I trust the direct teachings of Jesus more than I do that which has been filtered through the mind of man, society, church, government, etc.
So, I don’t fear the teachings to which you refer in your OP. If there is overlap, that’s great. So be it. But IN MY CASE, none of this is the source of my understanding, and I honestly reject any attempt to pigeon-hole my beliefs by labeling them with emotional labels that serve to marginalize and dismiss – labels such as “New Age”, “Anti-Christ”, “Eastern”, etc. I’m not saying that YOU are doing that, but many do. It is a common tendency, and one which, as I said, I reject.

  3. Thanks so much for your work Doug. I would be fairly lost without it. In following major Ufology players espousing esoteric spirituality it is more that comforting to know someone has already walked the path and shown the way to Law of One integration with Christian spirituality. I also greatly appreciate the reference to Eckhart Tolle – whom I consider to be one of my foremost teachers (one of the best in a lifetime of discovery). This is a rich spiritual heritage. Thanks Again!
