Blessed Is the Lion Which the Human Eats: A Reflection of Evil and Sin from a Law of One and Christian Perspective

Article by Doug Esse

The following is from a dialog I had with a friend regarding the Gospel of Thomas, Logion 7, and the tarot card from the Law of One that touches upon its theme. This dialog then led into who the devil or Satan might represent. I offered insights that I wanted to post here.

Logion 7 – Jesus said: Blessed is the lion which the man eats, and the lion will become man; and cursed is the man whom the lion eats, and the lion will become man.

I think that the lion represents the primal animal instincts which dominate the human in the first few incarnations as well as the first half of life in our present lives. It is the stuff of the first three chakras. Not evil but not heart-living. The card represents the higher reasoning, higher chakra activation, higher, more mature functioning, which has the power to temperate, moderate, transform the needs for power, prestige, and possessions into empowerment and service of others. The “devil prowls” and stimulates the base self. This comes in the form of catalysts that tempt base-self activation to the exclusion of heart-self engagement. This puts the order backwards (the lion eating the man).

Christ consciousness lovingly brings perspective and sublimation to the lion, which then sits calmly and allows the mouth to be shut. The higher tames the lower.

This is the meaning of the human consuming the lion,  introjecting (read “eating”) the instinctual self within the larger self. Yet, the human who is eaten or consumed by the drive for power, prestige, and possessions (lion) gets stuck in 3rd density living and repeats until the lessons of base-self refinement in mid-third density are desired and learned. The devil may be a symbol for the ethos of separation wherein the lion, and the lower chakra triad, find their proper place.

Friend:  How do you define the devil and how do you define evil?

Doug: For me, I believe that the veil of forgetting, itself, that is inherent in 3rd density, is the great catalyst for quick spiritual growth (in comparison to higher densities or 3rd density without the veil, as was the case prior to the Logoi conceptualizing the veil of forgetting).  On our side of the veil, we feel cut off, separate from each other, from Creation, and from God. This is the primordial expulsion from the “Garden of Eden.”

In 3rd density’s bandwidth of conscious awareness, an ethos of separation is the great catalyst that propels the great choice of polarity. It causes an urgent restlessness that for the person on the positive path, fosters a always-present desire to seek Love—God. As St. Augustine said, “Our hearts are restless until they test in You.”

But the human instinct to find a meaning behind the existential pain of seeming separation helps us to conceive of duality in 3rd density: Good versus Evil. This is proper in 3rd density thinking because it gives us a handle to begin—and I stress, begin— the spiritual journey.

Satan is the Accuser. But of what does he accuse us? Satan is the great archetype of separation and accuses us at the most foundational level that we are not children of the Lord. That we are separate.

Anytime we “sin,” it is an action we do that is congruent with the ethos of separation. Now there are creatures (dark angels, negative aliens, negative disincarnate humans, and negative thoughtforms) that serve the function to heighten and strengthen the ethos of separation so that 1) one who is not seeking a polarity [read the unpolarized], or 2) is not careful upon the path of positive polarity can become ensnared for a while within the power centers that resonate with separation. These are the lower three chakras that can get overstimulated to the point of becoming dominate in the person (example: the lion that eats the human).

The Bible teaches a metaphysics that perfectly elaborates the duality in personified ways so that humans can grasp these  truths (IE veil of forgetting, 3rd density, the choice, etc) because third density humans primarily respond to relationality and personas rather than philosophical concepts.  To personalize Satan is helpful, and in fact, is not too far off if we consider the negative beings who dwell with the energy of the negative polarity.

The Divine Is Crucified by our Scapegoat Mechanism.

But by the end of the New Testament, we see that duality is actually overcome. There is no more duality because Jesus himself assumes the great archetype of the scapegoat. This may be the meaning of, “For our sake, [God] made [Jesus] to be sin who knew no sin…” 2 Corinthians 5:21 because scapegoating is the primary “sin” or archetypal way of seeing the world within third density. Scapegoating is the metaphor of pointing the finger at a reason for the separation whether it is a concept, like being thrown out from the Garden of Eden or whether it is another group or another person.

He takes on the actual archetype of the scapegoat on the cross and does not fight back. By doing so he transforms the entire tit-for-tat worldview that exists in the third density ethos and shows a new way. That way is kenosis, or the path of self-emptying and self-surrender.

In this way, the human who follows the path of Jesus will activate the heart much more quickly because they will be doing inner work and this will help people not to find scapegoats or reasons to blame anybody else including Satan. This kind of inner work can only happen within the activated heart. People will be able to seek justice without becoming egoically attached to the outcome. People can set boundaries without needing to judge another—or, accuse another—of being less than our “us.”

Lastly but only tangentially related it can be said that the only pathway to the Father is through the Son, what that may mean from a metaphysical standpoint is that one can only gain access to higher seeing, and knowing, and living, or the upper chakras, if you have activated the heart chakra.

There are many ways to do this and one does not need to be esoteric or even understand chakras in the least. This is why it is the most important thing to serve other people and to love our neighbor as ourselves. We do that and we open up the heart chakra to various degrees.

But you do not get to the higher chakras unless you activate the heart chakra. The higher chakras can be akin to the “Father“. And the heart chakra is the “Son”. Notice that Catholics instinctually attempt to tap and activate their chakras when they make the sign of the cross. They do not know that they are doing this but the actual physical tapping of the chakras can help facilitate an opening, although it must be more intentional than most people do. But regardless, none of that is important. The entire path of Jesus can be done without any esoteric metaphysics, only open-hearted expression of love.

This is a great insight, my friend. I’ve never heard it spoken more succinctly nor as profoundly.
